When you need users to select from a list of predefined options, especially if that list is long or you want to keep your form compact, the Dropdown field is an excellent choice. This Field Block presents options in a concise, expandable menu, ideal for keeping your form tidy.

This guide will explain how to set up Dropdown fields in your Lumo.

What is a Dropdown Field?

A Dropdown field (or "Dropdown" block) presents a list of options in a compact, collapsible menu. Users click on the field to "drop down" the list and select their desired option. It's particularly useful for:

  • Lists with many options (e.g., countries, product categories).
  • Conserving vertical space on your form.

Step-by-Step: Adding a Dropdown Field

Configure the Field's Core Settings: After adding the block, you'll set its essential properties:

Field Label: This is the question or instruction presented to the user.

Selection Type: Decide how many options users can pick:

  • Single Choice: Users can select only one option from the dropdown list.
  • Multiple Choice: Users can select one or more options from the dropdown list (this typically changes the visual interface slightly, allowing multiple selections).

Edit Content of Each Option: This is where you define the specific choices that will appear in the dropdown list.

  • Click "Add Option" to create a new item in your list.
  • Enter the text for each option (e.g., "Main Street Branch," "Downtown Cafe," "Online Order Pickup Point").
  • You can add as many options as you need.
  • Reorder options by dragging them up or down using the handle next to each option.

Saving Your Changes

After configuring your Dropdown field, remember to manually save your changes by clicking the "Save" button in the editor.

Important

If you try to navigate away from the editor without saving, LumoPages will remind you to save your work. Always pay attention to these prompts to avoid losing your progress, especially if your Lumo is live!

Dropdown fields are highly effective for managing long lists of choices, keeping your form streamlined and clutter-free. They are a professional way to standardize user input and ensure data consistency.
